We have partnered with Wilderlands to preserve precious biodiversity at the Coorong and have created a simple way that you can join us and protect your very own patch today.
Entering this partnership's second year, we have secured some of the world’s first voluntary biodiversity credits to protect 3424 square metres of vulnerable habitat in the Coorong Lakes region. We would love your help to reach our collective goal of protecting a total of 5000 square metres for this project.
We’ve created a simple way that you can protect a one square metre patch at the Coorong by simply visiting the Wilderlands website to unlock your very own profile with a biodiversity credit as a gift inside.
You’ll also learn more about the project and the species that you’re helping to protect and receive regular reports from expert ecologists on the ground to follow the progress of this project and watch as nature flourishes thanks to your support.
The Coorong Lakes property is such a special project due to the innovative partnership between the conservation organisation Cassinia Environmental and the Traditional Owners of the region, the Ngarrindjeri people, who are working together to preserve one of Australia’s most important wetland areas.
It’s a project teeming with life. Over 222 species of native plants were recorded during the recent spring monitoring, with the noteworthy addition of Slender Smoke-bush (Conospermum patens), a species regarded as endangered under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
It is also home to incredible native orchid diversity with over 30 species recently recorded including the world’s largest known populations (on private land) of the nationally endangered Metallic Sun-orchid (Thelymitra epipactoides) – one of Australia’s largest and most impressive sun-orchids.
We hope you’ll join us as we work towards this collective goal and thank you for supporting our conservation partnerships as we work to embed further impact into our sustainability journey.
